研究概要

分子ドミノ型相転移化合物は、結晶に与えたわずかな機械的刺激が分子に伝わることで相転移がスタートし、それが自己複製的なメカニズムで増幅され、自発的に結晶全体に広がることで、結晶のバルクの性質を大きく変化させるという特徴がある。本研究代表者は、「分子ドミノ型相転移」や「外部刺激によりジャンプする結晶」のバリエーションを数多く開発し、それらの性質を詳細に分析することで、現象の基礎原理解明と、一般化の達成と材料デザイン手法の開発を目指す。具体的な研究内容は(1)ドミノ型相転移が進行する結晶の分子バリエーション作成と現象解明(2)ドミノ型相転移を利用したナノ構造を内包した結晶性材料の作成と機能開発(3)光誘起結晶相転移と瞬間的な機械力発生機構の解明と機能化である。分子ドミノ型相転移化合物のもつ「マクロの刺激が分子に伝わる」あるいは「分子のミクロな構造変化が結晶のマクロな性質を左右する」という特徴は、これまでは研究対象にできなかった「マクロとミクロの直接相関」に重要ないとぐちを与える。
