Four anionic Pt(II) complexes bearing N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) were synthesized as tetra-n-butylammonium salts, affording discrete Pt(II) complexes surrounded by the bulky cations in the crystalline states. Depending on the π-extension site of the NHC ligand, these crystals exhibit luminescence with different colors. Their strong luminescence properties were rationalized by spectroscopic measurements and theoretical calculations.
